| The
first interviews and shootings about the project were made on December 2001
with the old friends and neighbors of Ismet Siral in Marmaris where he passed
his last years. Charlie Haden and Ömer Faruk Tekbilek, two masters that
once taught at CMS were then interviewed in Istanbul on April and July 2002
respectively. The first quarter of 2003 was quite productive on behalf of the project. Woodstock has been visited for the first time (26 January - 2 February) where 14 key figures connected with CMS were interviewed and/or their solo performances were filmed. CMS archives were scanned and the old audiovisual materials to be used in the film were determined. Karl Berger (Founder and Director of CMS) and Burrill Crohn (the well known jazz documentary film maker) have given invaluable support and cooperation during this initial phase of production and will continue to be closely connected to the project. Coming back to Istanbul, interviews and performances of Nana Vasconcelos (February 2003) and Trilok Gurtu (April 2003) were filmed along with Jack DeJohnette's concert (February 2003). Interviews of Carla Bley, Butch Morris and Hamid Drake were filmed then on October 2003 and that of Dave Holland on March 2004. Hence, a total of 23 artists associated with CMS have been filmed until now, most being close friends of Ismet Siral and supporting the project to recreate CMS in Marmaris, south of Turkey.
